| DOCSIS Set-top Gateway (DSG) is a protocol I invented for carrying Out-of-Band signaling for Set-top Boxes (STB) over DOCSIS. DOCSIS is a two-way data protocol for Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) plants, while STBs need to be able to work on two-way or one-way plants. DSG allows DOCSIS to operate in a one-way mode by defining an address scheme and operating parameters. At the time of this paper, the first interum version (SP-DSG-I01-020228.pdf) of DSG had been published. I was the lead author at CableLabs for DSG. This paper covers the initial version of DSG and what had been agreed to as of Nov 2003 as input for the next version. The most recent version of DSG is at the CableLabs DSG Site. |
